Expertise and interests

Specialist in Biological Imaging for taxonomic research, and the development of relational databases and web-based taxonomic tools for identification. Also has interests in the taxonomy of deep sea bivalves of the Protobranchia group from the North East Atlantic.

Current projects

  • Leverhulme Trust funded project to provide an authoritive guide to the leafhopper and planthopper vectors of phytoplasma and virus disease, using digital images of adult insects, taxonomic drawings of morphological features, and text on the biology and pest status of each species. Leafhopper, Planthopper and Psyllid Vectors of Plant Disease.

  • Department of Energy & Climate Change funded project to produce an online identification guide to the Marine Bivalves of the British Isles.

  • Leverhulme Trust funded project to produce an online identification guide and illustrated checklists to the Sharpshooter Leafhoppers (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae subfamily Cicadellinae) of the World, based on the taxonomic study of the subfamily by David Young (1968, 1977, 186).   • Atlantic Frontier Environmental Network (AFEN) funded taxonomic study of deep-sea bivalves, focusing on bivalves from the genus Thyasira, Yoldiella and Cuspidaria, with the aim to produce fully illustrated taxonomic publications.
