Shell Structure:
Becoming very thick with age.
Equivalve:
Equivalve.
Equilateral:
Inequilateral, beaks just behind midline in small shells far behind in large shells.
Tumidity:
Compressed.
Outline:
Elongate oval; posterior dorsal margin sub-parallel to ventral margin, shorter than anterior dorsal margin, which slopes more steeply; posterior margin bluntly rounded; anterior margin narrowly rounded; ventral margin long almost straight.
Contour:
Umbos very low, beaks frequently eroded.
Sculpture:
Smooth with weak concentric lines and growth stops.
Margin:
Inner margin smooth.
Ligament:
External supported by a massive, dorsally projecting nymph.
Hinge:
Hinge without obvious teeth, faint irregular projection anterior to nymph.
Pallial Musculature:
Scars deeply impressed; pallial line entire except for a slight indentation below the posterior adductor scar; anterior adductor scar elongate, posterior adductor scar oval.
Periostracum:
Thick, persistent, brown to black in colour.
Colour:
Shell dirty white.
