Notes on Nomenclature
Jeffreys description of inflata is of a Halonympha - ‘curved laminar process or ridge, which apparently supports the adductor muscle on that side’. He describes the clavicular flange or buttress that is diagnostic of this genus.
To size: To 16mm. Shell Structure: Robust. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Slightly inequilateral, beaks behind midline. Tumidity: Moderately inflated. Outline: Body of shell deep, as high as long; anterior sloping steeply, gently curved; ventral curved. Rostrum short, length not equalling that of body, broadly triangular, dorsal slope straight, ventral margin only slightly concave, sulcus shallow.
Sculpture: Of closely and evenly spaced fine concentric ridges. Margin: Inner margin smooth. Ligament: Internal on a narrow projecting chondrophore. Hinge: A single anterior, small cardinal peg in the RV; both valves with a single, elongate, clavicular flange supporting the posterior adductor. Colour: Dirty white.
