To size: To 4mm. Shell Structure: Thin, fragile shell. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral. Beaks in front of midline. Tumidity: Fairly tumid. Outline: Sub-ovate. Lunule narrow, defined by weak groove. Escutcheon indistinct.
Sculpture: Concentric lines. Margin: Smooth. Ligament: Extends a quarter of length of margin. Hinge: 3 cardinals in each valve; in RV anterior short and adjoins shell for most of length; in LV posterior is very small knob. No laterals. Pallial Musculature: Pallial sinus unclear. Periostracum: Thin, glossy. Colour: Mid-brown.
Distribution & Ecology
Widespread around all coasts. Lives attached by a byssus in crevices, among algae and epifauna; intertidal and shallow sublittoral
