Smith & Heppell name: Cochlodesma tenerum (Jeffreys, 1880)

To size: To 15 mm. Shell Structure: Very thin, fragile. Equilateral: Almost equilateral, beaks slightly to anterior in some. Outline: Subtrigonal, posterior dorsal margin straight, steeper than anterior, to a truncated posterior margin. Ventral margin broadly curved to a medially curved anterior margin.

Sculpture: Fine, uneven concentric lines. Small crack on each umbo. Margin: Smooth. Ligament: Internal and external liament. Internal set on a peg-like resilifer. External part is thin. Hinge: No teeth. Colour: White, translucent.

Distribution & Ecology

A deep water species known from bathyal and upper abyssal depths. Recorded here from the Rockall Trough.
