To size: To 70mm. Shell Structure: Solid. Equivalve: Markedly inequivalve; right valve deeply convex, left valve slightly concave. Equilateral: Equilateral, ears equal. Outline: Left valve flat or slightly concave, right valve deeply convex.

Sculpture: Smooth radial ribs; those of right valve broad and low; those of left valve more spaced and flattened. Margin: Crenulated. Colour: Left valve bright purple red, right valve pale – yellow or white.

Distribution & Ecology

From North Carolina, Bermuda and south throughout the West Indies, Gulf of Mexico and south America to Brazil.
