Although this specimen has been labelled a holotype in our collection, Marie (1869) indicated that he saw three specimens in total, one in his collection, one in Cross’s and one in Viéville’s. He goes on to state that Viéville’s is the only one in very good condition, but he does not explicitly state that one specimen is the holotype or ‘the type’. I don’t consider Marie’s specimen (NMW) to be that figured by him as it differs in colouration and shape, although Melvill has suggested that it is on his label. My interpretation is that there is a type series containing three specimens, of which Marie’s is one, and it should therefore have syntype status and not holotype status.
