Remarks

The three paratypes fit the measurements given by Tom Pain (1956) well, although the length of paratype no. 4 is erroneous and should read 28.5mm.

Although much of Tom Pain’s collection came to NMW in 1981 a large portion of it remained with him at his home in Rainham, Kent, UK, until after his death in 2003. The cited paratypes for this subspecies have been at NMW since 1981 and were published by Cowie & Thiengo (2003) and in Tom’s obituary by Verdcourt, Wood & Rowson (2004), but at that time the location of the holotype was unknown. It only came to light after the second part of the Pain collection was curated at NMW and this is the first time it has been known to a wider audience since it’s original description.
