To size: To 200mm. Shell Structure: Thin, robust. Equivalve: Equivalve. Equilateral: Inequilateral. Tumidity: Valves moderately convex. Outline: Oval, slightly extended anterio-laterally; posterior curved with prominent posterior ear; dorsal anterior straight with anterior ear lacking; ventral anterior curved; ventral curved. Dorsal margin straight. Dorsal area wide. Valves not gaping or with a narrow byssus gape.

Sculpture: Up to around 100 radiating narrow riblets, these most prominent on the anterior-ventral area and the posterio-dorsal area. Inner margin weakly crenulated in small shell but crenulations fading with growth. Ligament: In a large triangular resilifer on the cardinal area. Hinge: Hinge plate on either side of resilifer smooth. Pallial Musculature: Posterior adductor and pedal retractor scar close to the mid posterior margin. Periostracum: Thin, obscure. Colour: Opalescent white becoming dirty white.

Distribution & Ecology

Along the Atlantic margin associated with deep water coral reefs but also attached to rock faces in fjords.
