Morphology
Size
Length 10-26 µm, width 5-8 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 2004).
Shape
Valves elliptic with broadly rounded poles.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical, heterovalvar.
Striae
Radiate on both valves, 27-32 in 10 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 2004).
Central area
Elliptic on the raphe valve, extended transapically, 1/4-1/2 of valve width, bordered by several shorter striae of varying length, large and rhombic on the rapheless valve.
Raphe
Straight, very slightly expanded round proximal and distal ends.
SEM morphology
Small ridges towards the proximal raphe ends accompany the raphe slit.
Uniseriate striae with round external areola openings, internal areola openings occluded by cribra.
