Morphology

Shape
Valves elliptic or elliptic-lanceolate with broadly rounded ends.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical, heterovalvar.

Striae
Radiate on raphe and rapheless valve.

Axial area
Linear, widening towards the central area.

Central area
On the raphe valve rhombic, ca. 3/4 of the valve width, bordered by several shorter striae, on the rapheless valve large, rhombic extending to the valve ends.

Raphe
Straight, hardly expanded at the proximal and very slightly expanded at the distal ends.


SEM morphology
Uniseriate striae with round external areola openings on the raphe valve and round or transapically elongated external areola openings on the rapheless valve, internal areola openings occluded by cribra.
