Morphology
Size
7.5-10.0 µm long, 4.5-5.0 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves elliptic with broadly rounded ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical, heterovalvar.
Striae
Striae radiate throughout on raphe and rapheless valve.
Axial area
Narrow, linear, in some valves widening near the central area.
Central area
Acute-angled, asymmetrical subfascia, bordered by 3-4 shortened striae of different length.
Raphe
Raphe bordered by a rim, filiform, straight with slightly expanded proximal and distal ends.
SEM morphology
Striae uniseriate, areolae occluded internally by hymenes.
7.5-10.0 µm long, 4.5-5.0 µm wide (UK population).
