Morphology
Size
12.5-21.0 µm long, 6.0-8.0 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Elliptic-lanceolate to elliptic with rounded apices, margins tapering from valve centre ; frustules rectangular in girdle view.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Striae parallel, becoming radiate towards the apices.
Axial area
Sternum narrow, linear, slightly irregular.
12.5-21.0 µm long, 6.0-8.0 µm wide (UK population).
