Morphology

Shape
Valves linear-lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, convex dorsal margin more curved than the slightly convex ventral margin, the central section of the ventral margin can be almost straight, dorsal and ventral margins taper gradually towards the rostrate to subcapitate apices, apices sometimes slightly deflected towards the ventral side; frustules rectangular in girdle view.

Symmetry
Isopolar, dorsiventral.

Striae
Delicate, parallel to slightly radiate, barely visible at the poles.

Axial area
Very narrow, linear.

Central area
Not wider than the axial area.

Raphe
Filiform, positioned more or less in the centre of the valve, straight to slightly biarcuate in the central section of the valve, with slightly dorsally deflected proximal endings; central and polar nodules visible; the latter slightly short from the apices, distal raphe fissure deflected ventrally (SEM).

Other features
The degree of dorsiventrality increases as cell size decreases.
