Morphology
Size
15.5-29.0 µm long, 3.5-5.0 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves weakly arcuate with slightly convex dorsal margin, straight or slightly concave ventral margin. Valve ends slightly protracted, subrostrate to rostrate, broadly rounded.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae parallel in valve centre becoming slightly radiate towards poles, irregularly spaced, 12-14 in 10 µm.
Raphe
Raphe located mostly on mantle, curving onto valve face close to apices, terminating close to ventral margin.
Other features
Variable species complex.
