Morphology
Size
Length 80-160 µm, width 6.5-8.5 µm, lectotype: length 230–320 μm, width 6.3–7.7 μm (Lange-Bertalot & Ulrich 2014).
Shape
Valves linear to linear-lanceolate with rostrate ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Parallel, slightly radiate at the valve ends; positioned opposite each other and off-set,
10-12 in 10 µm (UK population); ghost striae can be present.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Central area
Round, oval or irregular.
SEM morphology
Uniseriate striae with oval external areola openings which are occluded.
Apical pore fields at both ends.
Small apical spines can be present.
A rimoportula is present at each end.
Length 80-160 µm, width 6.5-8.5 µm, lectotype: length 230–320 μm, width 6.3–7.7 μm (Lange-Bertalot & Ulrich 2014).
