Morphology
Shape
Valves clavate with rostrate or subcapitate head pole, and rounded or slightly inflated foot pole.
Symmetry
Heteropolar, heterovalvar.
Striae
More or less parallel, slightly radiate adjacent to the raphe slits, convergent towards the distal section of the raphe; striae can be irregularly spaced, curved and of varying length.
Axial area
Narrow, irregular.
Raphe
Raphe slits on one valve 1/4 - 1/3 of the valve length, proximal section curved, and expanded, slightly deflected proximal ends and expanded, straight distal ends; on the other valve raphe absent or much shorter.
SEM morphology
Short spines located along the valve margin.
One the valve with two longer raphe slits two rimoportulae are present near the poles beyond the distal raphe ends, on the other valve a rimoportula is present beyond the short raphe slit near the pole.
