Morphology

Shape
Valves narrowly lanceolate to elliptical with bluntly subrostrate, rounded apices.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.

Striae
Radiate through most of the valve, becoming parallel near the apices and convergent at the apices; striae clearly cross-lineate with visible areolae; 1-3 shorter central striae are more widely spaced.

Axial area
Narrow linear, more refractive on one side of the raphe slit than the other.

Central area
Round to slightly transapically expanded, sometimes slightly asymmetrical, with three or four shortened striae on either side, ca. 1/3 to 1/2 of the valve width.

Raphe
Straight with expanded central endings, terminating within the central area; terminal fissures hooked very close to the apices.
