Morphology
Size
23.5-48.5 µm long, 10-11 µm wide (UK population); 16-36 µm long, 9-11 µm wide (English & Potapova 2012).
Shape
Valves linear to ovate, headpole broadly rounded, footpole cuneate.
Symmetry
Heteropolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Parallel in the central part of the valve, becoming slightly radiate further from the centre, radiate and curved near head- and footpole.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
SEM morphology
Striae multiseriate, composed of irregularly distributed elongate areolae;
On the valve surface many round granules located on the transapical ribs, irregularly distributed in the central part of the valve;
Fibulae, 7-8 in 10 µm, extending from the valve margin approximately half the distance to the narrow axial line;
Interfibular spaces each with one oval portula.
