Morphology
Size
11.5-21.5 µm long, 4-4.5 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves arcuate with capitate or subcapitate apices, in larger valves apices are slightly dorsally deflected. A moderately convex dorsal margin with three regularly spaced undulations, a slightly concave ventral margin with two undulations near apices.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae slightly radiate throughout, (16) 17 in 10 µm (UK population).
Raphe
Raphe located mostly on mantle, curving onto valve face close to apices and terminating close to ventral margin.
SEM morphology
Areolae occluded; copulae with undulate margins; a rimoportula located in centre of apex.
