Morphology
Size
Length 17-31 µm, width 6.5-8.5 µm (Levkov 2009).
Shape
Valves lanceolate with rounded ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Radiate, punctate.
Axial area
Appears narrow in smaller valves, wider in larger valves, expanding towards the central area.
Central area
Acute-angled subfascia bordered usually by 3-4 areolae at the valve margin. A transapically elongated stigma present one side of the fascia, adjacent to the striae.
Raphe
Very slightly arched with proximal and distal ends deflected.
SEM morphology
Distal raphe ends hook-shaped and deflected in the opposite direction of the central ends.
Striae uniseriate with round or slightly transapically elongated external areola openings.
A hyaline area along the valve margin separates the striae from a single row of areolae on the valve mantle.
