Morphology
Shape
Valves clavate with broadly rounded, sometime more tapering ends at the head pole and rounded foot pole.
Frustules in girdle view wedge-shaped.
Symmetry
Heteropolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Slightly radiate at the valve centre, sometimes parallel at the head pole, radiate at the foot pole; one short stria and one slightly shortened stria in the valve centre slightly wider spaced.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Central area
Small and asymmetrical.
Raphe
Straight with slightly expanded central ends.
Other features
One isolated stigma near the proximal raphe ends.
In girdle view two dotted lines visible.
SEM morphology
Pore field at the foot pole.
Striae biseriate.
Internal proximal raphe ends deflected unilaterally, hook-shaped.
Septa present at the poles.
