Morphology
Shape
Valves lanceolate with rostrate or slightly subcapitate apices.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Radiate at the valve centre, becoming parallel and then convergent towards the valve ends.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Central area
Small, rounded, more often irregular due to longer and shorter striae bordering the central area.
Raphe
Straight, with slightly expanded, proximal ends which terminate just within the central area.
SEM morphology
Proximal raphe ends small hooks, terminal fissures deflected at the apices in the same direction.
