Morphology
Shape
Valves narrowly to broadly lanceolate with slightly protracted, bluntly rounded apices.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Radiate at centre, becoming parallel and then convergent near the apices; central striae markedly shorter.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Central area
Round to slightly quadrate, sometimes slightly asymmetrical, rounder on one side than the other.
Raphe
Straight, with widely separated, expanded, slightly deflected central endings; terminal endings clearly and strongly hooked towards the secondary side of the valve.
