Morphology
Size
8.5-15.5 µm long, 2.5-3.5 µm wide (UK population).
Shape
Valves arcuate with capitate, sometimes dorsally deflected poles. Dorsal margin convex with 2-3 shallow undulations, ventral margin concave.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae slightly radiate throughout valve, 20-24 in 10 µm (UK population).
Raphe
Raphe located mostly on mantle, curving onto valve face close to apices, terminating close to ventral margin.
