Morphology

Shape
Valves semi-lanceolate with convex dorsal margin, straight or slightly gibbous ventral margin; frustule in girdle view biconvex. Valve ends narrowly rounded, sometimes bent towards ventral margin.

Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.

Striae
Dorsal striae parallel to radiate, ventral striae radiate in centre, convergent towards valve ends; striae interrupted by central area, 14-17 in 10 µm, without punctation.

Axial area
Narrow, offset towards ventral margin, straight for most of its length until it approaches valve margin, then curving towards ventral margin.

Central area
On dorsal side fascia reaching dorsal margin, on ventral side broader fascia.

Raphe
Filiform, straight raphe, proximal raphe ends slightly dorsally bent.

Other features
Girdle wider on one side of frustule, both valve faces visible when whole frustules seen in girdle view.
