Size
7.0-20.0 µm long, 4.0-5.0 µm wide (type population).
Shape
Valves linear with protracted rostrate to subcapitate apices; valve margins in larger valves straight or with slight constriction, valve margins in medium-sized and smaller valves convex.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical, rarely slightly asymmetrical to the axial axis.
Striae
Striae more or less parallel to slightly radiate, alternating; 14-15 in 10 µm.
Axial area
Sternum narrow to moderately broad.
Other features
Frustules linked forming ribbon-like colonies.
