Morphology
Shape
Valves linear-elliptic, elliptic or lanceolate with rostrate ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Valve
Prominant transapical ribs (primary, secondary and tertiary).
Striae
Very fine, not visible in LM.
Axial area
Narrow, linear axial area.
Other features
The cingulum consists of few bands, two or three types, open at opposite ends of the frustule.
SEM morphology
Uniseriate striae with very small external aroela openings, parallel, slightly radiate towards the ends, continuing around the apices on the mantel below the large apical pore fields.
Internally prominent transapical ribs, the sternum is slightly raised.
One rimoportula positioned close to one of the apical pore fields.
Valves linear-elliptic, elliptic or lanceolate with rostrate ends.
