Morphology
Size
15-21 µm long, 4.5-5.5 µm wide (UK population), 12-22(26) µm long, 5-6 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot & Krammer 1989).
Shape
Valves lanceolate with rostrate apices.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Strongly radiate in valve centre, becoming parallel towards the valve ends and convergent near the apices.
Axial area
Very narrow, linear.
Central area
Small, irregularly shaped.
Raphe
Filiform with slightly expanded central pores.
15-21 µm long, 4.5-5.5 µm wide (UK population), 12-22(26) µm long, 5-6 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot & Krammer 1989).
