Morphology
Shape
Valves linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, sometimes almost rhombic or linear-elliptic, with slightly protracted to rostrate apices.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Clearly visible, parallel to slightly radiate towards the poles; uniseriate with round areolae (SEM); within raphe canal striae are biseriate and each valve face or mantle stria is represented by 4 (rarely 3 or 5) small poroids (SEM).
Raphe
Fibulate raphe system at valve margin with central raphe endings, usually the two central fibulae are further apart from each other than other fibulae; fibulae and interfibular spaces almost equal, in valve view fibulae positioned along the margin, appearing small, square or rectangular.
