Morphology
Size
Length 75.6-207.5 µm, maximum width 6.25-7.5 µm (UK population); (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2017 has length 50-130 µm, width 5-7.5 µm ).
Shape
Valves linear or linear-lanceolate, slightly constricted at the centre on the raphe side. Poles rostrate or subcapitate, asymmetrical, curved towards the side opposite the raphe, raphe side convex, opposite side slightly concave.
Symmetry
Isopolar.
Striae
Parallel, clearly visible, ca. 30 in 10 µm in the valve centre, ca. 35 in 10 µm towards the poles (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2017 has 27-30 in 10 µm).
Other features
Large fibulae, wider spaced in the valve centre, 11-13 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2017 has 9-14 in 10 µm).
SEM morphology
A small ridge present on the valve margin opposite the raphe.
Mantle valve surface and girdle bands with raised ornamentation varying from meandering linear or oblong ridges to isolated nodules.
Edge of girdle bands with regular row of raised nodules.
