Morphology
Shape
Valves cymbelloid with convex dorsal margin, very slightly convex ventral margin with more or less inflated central section, and slightly protracted broadly rounded ends.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral.
Striae
Striae slighty radiate, on the ventral side parallel to slightly convergent towards the poles; alternate short and long striae positioned around the poles; areolae are apically elongate (SEM) and clearly visible in LM, striae adjacent to central area terminate sometimes in small round areolae (SEM).
Axial area
Narrow, straight.
Central area
Circular to oval, ca. 1/4 of valve width.
Raphe
Slightly curved, in the central section of the valve with expanded, slightly dorsally bent proximal endings, and short ventrally deflected terminal fissures, terminating in the sometimes slightly expanded distal part of the axial area on the valve face.
