Morphology
Size
42-58 µm long, 6-7 µm wide (UK population), 30-78 µm long, 5-8 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot 2001).
Shape
Valves linear with protracted rostrate and broadly rounded apices.
Symmetry
Isoploar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Striae radiate becoming convergent near the apices, 12-13 in 10 µm (UK population), 11-12 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot 2001).
Axial area
Narrow, linear, widening slightly towards central area.
Central area
Rounded or rhombic and slightly asymmetrical.
Raphe
Raphe filiform with expanded central pores.
