Morphology

Size
Length 22-37.5 µm, width 2-2.5 µm (UK population).

Shape
Narrow, linear with margins tapering towards the short protracted rostrate ends.

Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical in outline.

Striae
Striae clearly visible, parallel, 29-31 in 10 µm, fibulae 12-13 (16) in 10 µm (UK population).

Raphe
Fibulate raphe system with central raphe endings, the two central fibulae further apart from each other than other fibulae; fibulae and interfibulae spaces sometimes unequal, in valve view fibulae positioned along the margin, appearing more or less rectangular.
