Morphology
Shape
Valves ovate.
Symmetry
Heteropolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Radiate in the valve centre, strongly radiate towards the valve ends
Axial area
Narrow, linear or slightly undulating.
Raphe
Raphe slit at the perimeter of the valve, not visible in LM.
Other features
Transapical ribs appear short and thin.
SEM morphology
The keel is low without wings.
Externally transapical ribs extend from the margin to the sternum, with a network of small irregularly placed ribs in between them.
Internally every 3rd or 4th transapical rib is raised and continues to the fibulae; the raised section of the transapical ribs does not continue to the sternum, therefore the central part of the internal surface is more or less flat creating the impression of a lanceolate 'saddle' in LM (depending on the focus).
Striae multiseriate with small elongated external and rounded internal areola openings.
