Morphology
Size
27-72 µm long, 5-7 µm wide (UK population), 25-140 µm long, 6-7.5 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Shape
Valves linear with flat or slightly arched dorsal margin, straight or slightly concave ventral margin, and protracted, broadly rounded rostrate to subcapitate ends; dorsal and ventral margins can be gibbous in the valve centre.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Parallel, slightly radiate towards valve ends, (10)12-14 in 10 µm.
Raphe
Short raphe, short terminal fissures bent dorsally close to the poles and slightly recurved towards valve centre.
SEM morphology
Spines present at poles.
27-72 µm long, 5-7 µm wide (UK population), 25-140 µm long, 6-7.5 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Shape
