Morphology
Size
Length 7-16 µm, width 4-6 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 2004).
Shape
Elliptic to linear-elliptic.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Parallel or slightly radiate adjacent to the central area, then radiate and strongly radiate at apices, 12-16 in 10 µm.
Axial area
Narrow linear on raphe valve, narrow or moderately wide lanceolate on rapheless valve.
Central area
A narrow rectangular central area extends to margin, it can be inconspicuous or lacking.
SEM morphology
Raphe straight with expanded proximal and distal ends, the latter terminating at valve margin; internally proximal raphe ends deflected in opposite directions. Striae usually biseriate, but can become partly uniseriate.
Length 7-16 µm, width 4-6 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 2004).
