Morphology
Shape
Valves circular.
Striae
Strongly radiate, uniseriate, punctate striae. Longer and shorter striae alternating in the central part of the valve. The stria density increases from the valve centre to the distal ends of the raphe.
Axial area
Narrow, linear, slightly widening towards the valve centre.
Central area
Oval small to medium-sized central area, sometimes indistinct or irregular because it is bordered by striae of varying length.
Raphe
Raphe filiform with straight, expanded central pores and terminal raphe endings deflected in opposite directions.
Valves circular.
