Morphology
Shape
Valves lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate with rounded ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Uniseriate, radiate becoming parallel near the ends, transapically elongated areolae are visible in LM.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Central area
Small, circular or rhombic.
Raphe
Straight, filiform, proximal endings appear expanded in LM; one ridge on either side of the raphe (SEM).
SEM morphology
Small protrusions on the virgae.
Valves lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate with rounded ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Uniseriate, radiate becoming parallel near the ends, transapically elongated areolae are visible in LM.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Central area
Small, circular or rhombic.
Raphe
Straight, filiform, proximal endings appear expanded in LM; one ridge on either side of the raphe (SEM).
SEM morphology
