Morphology
Size
18-30 µm long, 4.5-5.0 µm wide (UK population), 18-60 µm long, 4-6(8) µm wide (Lange-Bertalot 2017).
Shape
Valves lanceolate, dorsal and ventral margins convex, protracted, narrowly rounded valve ends.
Symmetry
Slightly dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae radiate throughout valve, 18-20 in 10 µm (UK population), 18-22 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2017).
Axial area
Narrow, linear, slightly curved.
Central area
Small, rounded, sometimes inconspicuous, bordered by 1-2 slightly shortened striae on ventral and dorsal side.
Raphe
Raphe slightly curved, slightly expanded central pores, distal raphe fissures bent to ventral side.
18-30 µm long, 4.5-5.0 µm wide (UK population), 18-60 µm long, 4-6(8) µm wide (Lange-Bertalot 2017).
