Morphology
Size
22.5-45.0 µm long, 5.5-7.0 µm wide (UK population), 14.0-95.0 µm long, 4.0-9.0 µm wide (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Shape
Valves slightly arcuate, ventral margin almost straight or slightly concave, dorsal margin moderately convex, margins in central part of valve almost parallel; capitate or subcapitate, sometimes rostrate apices.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae more or less parallel, irregularly spaced, 9-13 in 10 µm(UK population), 8-12 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Raphe
Raphe located mostly on mantle, curving onto valve face close to apices, terminating approximately in centre of apex.
