Synonymy

Morphology
Shape
Elliptic with obtuse point particularly on raphe valve, raphe valve concave, rapheless valve convex, flexed in girdle view.
Symmetry
Valves isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Valve
Frustules heterovalvar.
Striae
On raphe valve striae comprising dot-like areolae, slightly radiate in the valve centre, becoming more radiate towards the valve ends. Striae on the raphe valve are interrupted towards the margin by a raised siliceous rim; striae on the rapheless valves do not form distinct longitudinal lines.
Axial area
On raphe valve narrow linear, straight, terminating at marginal ridge; on rapheless valve narrow pore-free area.
Central area
On raphe valve very small and circular or indistinct; absent on rapheless valve.
Raphe
Straight with expanded proximal and distal ends, proximal ends positioned close together; terminal ends straight, ending at ridge. Internally proximal raphe ends deflected in opposite directions.
