Morphology
Size
Length 12.6-21.6 µm, width 2.6-3.7 µm, frustule width 7 µm (UK population); length 15-25 µm, width 3-4.5 µm, frustule width 7-11 µm (Levkov 2009).
Shape
Valves semi-lanceolate with convex dorsal and straight to slightly convex ventral margin; valve ends protracted, capitate, slightly ventrally bent.
Symmetry
Isopolar, dorsiventral.
Striae
Striae on dorsal side slightly radiate to radiate, 23-25 in 10 µm (UK population), 18-24 in 10 µm (Levkov 2009), areolae on dorsal side discernible; a row of round to slightly elongate areolae near ventral margin, 22-34 in 10 µm (Levkov 2009).
Axial area
Axial area moderately broad, predominantly expressed on ventral side.
Central area
No central area on dorsal side, indistinguishable from axial area on ventral side.
Raphe
Raphe branches arched with slightly dorsally deflected proximal raphe ends.
