Morphology
Size
Length 20-120 µm, width 2-5 µm.
Shape
Valves linear with subcapitate or spatulate ends.
Symmetry
Isopolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Valve
Prominent transapical ribs (primary, secondary and tertiary), 6-10 in 10 µm.
Striae
Very fine, not visible in LM.
Axial area
Narrow, linear.
Other features
The cingulum consists of few bands, open at opposite ends of the frustule.
SEM morphology
Uniseriate, parallel striae.
Large apical pore fields.
Internally prominent transapical ribs.
One rimoportula positioned close to one of the apical pore fields.
