Morphology
Size
21.5-34.5 µm long, 6.5-7.5 µm wide.
Shape
Valves with convex dorsal margin, slightly convex ventral margin and rounded, rostrate ends.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae parallel to slightly radiate, becoming radiate towards valve ends, 10-12 in 10 µm in valve centre (Ireland population).
Axial area
Narrow, linear, slightly curved.
Central area
Not differentiated from axial area.
Raphe
Raphe slightly displaced towards ventral margin, raphe curved towards ventral margin near proximal raphe ends, which are slightly enlarged, straight or slightly bent ventrally; dorsally deflected terminal raphe fissures.
