Morphology

Shape
Valves twisted about the apical axis, frustules often lying in girdle view and then bilobate in shape.

Valve
Arched keels, the junction with the valve face marked by irregular arches or waves.

Striae
Striae continue onto the keel, areola openings round, smaller on the valve face than on the keel.

Raphe
Raphe system fibulate, raphe positioned on outer edge of keel and terminating close to each pole.

Other features
Several girdle bands.
