Morphology
Size
9.5-43.0 µm long, 2.5-4.0 µm wide (UK population); 8.0-40.0 µm long, 2.7-3.8 µm (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Shape
Valves moderately arcuate, with hardly protracted, rounded, subrostrate poles in larger and medium-sized valves, poles not protracted in small valves.
Symmetry
Dorsiventral, isopolar.
Striae
Striae parallel, evenly spaced, 18-20 in 10 µm (UK population), 15-22 in 10 µm (Lange-Bertalot et al. 2011).
Raphe
Raphe mostly located on mantle, curving onto valve near apices, terminating near ventral margin.
