Morphology
Size
Length 11.5-27.0 µm, width 3.7-4.5 µm (central European populations, Reichardt 1997)
Shape
Narrowly lanceolate with bluntly rounded head pole, more acutely rounded foot pole; cuneate in girdle view.
Symmetry
Heteropolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Widely spaced, more or less parallel through most of valve, slightly radiate near apices; 10-13 in 10 µm in centre, up to 16 in 10 µm towards apices (central European populations, Reichardt 1997); striae uniseriate with small round areolae, extending onto mantle(SEM).
Axial area
Narrow linear.
Central area
Quadrate, with very short central striae on each side, > 1/2 of valve width; a single isolated 'stigma' close to proximal raphe endings.
Raphe
Straight or very slightly undulate, proximal endings close to each other; straight and slightly expanded; terminal endings curved close to apices.
