Morphology
Size
18-70 µm long, 6-15 µm wide (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1988).
Shape
Linear with more or less parallel valve margins, towards the poles margins taper gradually to cuneate apices.
Symmetry
Isopolar, occasionally slightly heteropolar, bilaterally symmetrical.
Striae
Parallel in valve centre, slightly radiate toward the poles, sometimes difficult to resolve in LM, 20-28 in 10 µm (Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1988).
Axial area
Very narrow, linear.
Raphe
Raphe slits at the perimeter of the valve, not visible in LM.
Other features
Transapical ribs appear short in LM, raised ribs extending from the margin across a quarter or a third of valve width.
