Valves lanceolate to elliptic with broadly rounded rostrate to subcapitate ends.

Frustules heterovalvate.
Striae
Radiate throughout, slightly wider spaced in the valve centre.
Axial area
Narrow, linear, slightly widening towards the valve centre on the rapheless valve.
Central area
Small rounded central area on the raphe valve; small, elliptical on the rapheless valve.
Raphe
Simple, filiform raphe on one valve with straight proximal and distal raphe ends.
